Doctor Seuss Day

Most people who grew up in the USA (and probably most English-speaking countries, for that matter) are aware of various books by Dr. Seuss. He wrote a number of classic children's books including such titles as Green Eggs and Ham, Horton Hears a Who, The Cat in the Hat, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and a long list of other memorable books. Although the books could be dismissed as silly or even a little bit strange, most people consider them to be creative and entertaining and quite appropriate for young children learning to read. The books captivate the imaginations of young children and provide enjoyable material to help with the practice and development of reading skill. Of course, the books also provide a fantastic inspiration for parody, which gets us to the video and song embedded on this page!

Lyrics:

There are days for lots of things
To celebrate stuff
Things with arms or things with wings
You can never have enough

But March the second has been set aside
For a very special use
On that day we celebrate the books
By Dr. Seuss

Theodor Giesel wrote a bunch
Of awesome books
His characters were uniquely strange
With oddly funny looks
