Also known as "The Devil's Rope," barbed wire is associated with cowboys and the Old West. However, barbed wire reduced the need for cowboys to tend herds of cattle and so fewer cowboys remained employed following the invention of barbed wire. It's odd how many songs there are which mention barbed wire in one way or another. Even stranger is that very few of these songs are worth listening to. That's not to say that this song is any good either, but at least it's short and so the agony of listening to it is not a long drawn out process!
